Joint Port of Tallinn was the leader in Baltics in Jan uary – July

With the sea born totalling to 21,5 million tons Klaipėda Port’s cargo han dling growth rate throughout seven month of the year 2011 was even 23,0% up comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year. According to cargo han dling turnover in Easter Coast Baltic Ports in the period of Jan uary – July of 2011 Klaipeda Port has still remained ahead the neighbouring Ports of Riga an d Ventspils but slightly left behind the Joint Port of Tallinn.
The common cargo han dling results of Klaipeda Port an d Būtingė Terminal made 26,5 million tons in Jan uary – July of 2011 an d exceeded the han dling turnover of the Joint Port of Tallinn by 4,4 million tons, informed BC press service of Klaipeda Port.
The highest increase in cargo turnover during seven month of this year comparing with the corresponding period of 2010 was reached due to increased han dling volumes of bulk natural an d chemical fertilizers (+1 437,9 thousan d tons), liquid natural an d chemical fertilizers (+639,0 thousan d tons), containerized cargo (+604,9 thousan d tons), oil products (+480,7 thousan d tons), Ro – Ro cargo (+418,9 thousan d tons) an d bulk iron ore (+317,8 thousan d tons).
In terms of cargo groups the han dling volumes of dry an d bulk cargo were the han dling turnover made 8 317,2 thousan d tons (38,8% of all cargoes han dled in the Port) increased mostly(by 26,2%). The han dling turnover of general cargo advan ced by 21,6% to 6 588,7 thousan d tons (30,7%). Liquefied cargo han dling volumes increased by 20,4%, the han dling volumes of this cargo group were 6 553,4 thousan d tons ( 30,5%).
3 939 vessels, i.e. more by 8,7% or by 316 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year called Klaipėda Port in Jan uary–July of this year. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the an alysed period was 186,9 thousan d, i.e. more by 0,9% comparing with the corresponding period of 2010. The number of cruise passengers in Jan uary – July of 2011 was 13,1 thousan d, i.e. less by – 45,2% or by – 10,8 thousan d passengers.
Klaipėda Port has further maintained its position of the leading Port in containerized cargo han dling in the region of the Baltic countries. 241 731 TEU, i.e. more by 47,0% comparing to the correspondingperiodof 2010 (the increase made77 256TEU) were han dled in Klaipėda Port in Jan uary – July of 2011.
