Affiliated unions are being urged to stan d by a DHL worker in Norway who has been dismissed by local man agers.
Monica Nkechi Okpe, a shop steward an d bran ch secretary of the ITF-affiliated Oslo Tran sport Workers’ Union at the global delivery compan y’s supply chain in Norway was dismissed from her position on 6 May. The ITF understan ds that the case is currently being investigated an d could be taken to court in Norway.
In protest letters to the compan y in Norway as well as to regional, European an d head office representatives, the ITF an d its campaign partner UNI global union, said: “The ITF an d UNI are extremely concerned at this reported activity of the DHL man agement in Ulven an d we would seek your urgent investigation of this situation to ensure that Monica is reinstated immediately.
“Sadly this is not the first time we have had to write to DHL man agement about firing trade union activists, therefore in the mean time, we see it as our duty to inform our international community an d will do so.”
The ITF an d UNI are calling on unions to send protest letters to the compan y an d messages of solidarity to the union. For more information visit: http://www.itfglobal.org/solidarity/solidarity-3334.cfm
