HPH meeting marks major breakthrough for Hong Kong dockers' union
28/07/2011
For the first time in 20 years representatives from the Hong Kong international terminal groups union (HIT) have secured a meeting with the man agement of GNT operator HPH.
The meet has been set up to allow discussion about over time rates an d chan ges to the appraisal system which workers fear could have an affect on an nual bonuses. The union claims man agement are ‘moving the goalposts’ making it more difficult for dockers to hit their targets an d therefore to get their bonus payments.
This latest development comes off the back of HIT’s successful negotiation of a pay rise for workers earlier in the year.
HIT progress is not the only success story to come out of Hong Kong in recent months with the union of Hong Kong dockers (UoHKD) also taking a considerable step forward by winning a substan tial pay increase for contract workers.
