Port of Tallinn and Elering start preparing for LNG terminal
Elering’s board chairman Taavi Veskimägi said that the issues concerning an LNG terminal are one of the main issues for the Estonian state in guaranteeing supply reliability as well as for developing the gas market into a competitive market.
“The gas market development report compiled by Pöyry states that in order to create free competition at the market, besides separating the ownership of gas grid, another important condition is access of an alternative gas supply chain and suppliers to the Estonian market. This is in today’s circumstances possible most realistically via a liquefied natural gas terminal,” said Veskimägi.
Port of Tallinn commerce manager Erik Ringmaa said that the state-owned port operator company has studied the possibilities of building an LNG terminal in Muuga or Paldiski South Port and studies show that the Eastern part of Muuga port is the best location.
Ringmaa added that they hope to achieve major synergy from joining bunkering LNG and a regional LNG terminal.
Elering and Port of Tallinn are looking for possibilities of getting co-financing to the project from EU budget and declare readiness to include third partners in the project if need be.

Estonian state-owned Port of Tallinn and Elering announced that they have concluded cooperation agreement on launching preparations for building a LNG terminal, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

In 11 months, the terminal has handled 177,561 TEU, growth of 28% in a year.
“The November cargo volume growth was a bit smaller than we forecast but the annual forecast will be fulfilled and exceeded,” said Transiidikeskuse AS board member Erik Laidvee.
The subsidiaries of Transiidikeskuse AS have handled 2,428,000 tonnes of cargo in 11 months, by 14% less than at the same time last year due to the Muuga-Vuosaari Ro-Ro route being closed this spring.

The statistics of the AS Muuga CT container terminal indicate that in November 2011, the volume of handled cargo grew by 21% as compared to the same time last year, LETA/Delfi reports.
In 11 months, the terminal has handled 177,561 TEU, growth of 28% in a year.

За 11 месяцев 2011 года через контейнерный терминал Мууга прошло 177 561 единиц TEU (TEU– 20-футовый контейнер), что на 28% больше, чем в прошлом году, пишет dzd.ee.
«Объем транспортированного товара был немного меньше, чем мы прогнозировали. Однако прогноз на год сбылся полностью и даже превышен», — сказал Эрик Лайдвеэ, руководитель Transiidikeskus AS. По его словам, на работе терминала негативно сказались необычайно сильные шторма на прошлой неделе.
«С одной стороны ясно, что из-за стратегии развития морских портов России, у нас нет возможности в ближайшие годы переломить трэнд, согласно которому поток транспортируемых через Эстонию в Россию товаров будет уменьшаться. С другой стороны, цифры показывают, что мы можем конкурировать в определенном сегменте рынка», — считает Лайдвеэ.
Через предприятия Transiidikeskus AS за первые 11 месяцев 2011 года было транспортировано 2 428 000 тонн различных товаров. Это на 14% меньше, чем в прошлом году.
