Industrial union members started the first of six days of
strikes across Finland on Tuesday.
The Industrial Union announced that the strike would go
ahead on Sunday, after negotiations with employer group Technology Industries
of Finland did not produce results. Efforts to resolve issues during mediations
on Monday were also unsuccessful.
According to Trade Union Pro, there are still a number of
unanswered questions regarding collective agreements. Among other things,
agreement has not yet been reached regarding salaries.
The
unions are seeking an across-the-board 10 percent pay rise, but employers'
representatives say that the economy cannot support such increases.
Tuesday's one-day strike involved union members from more
than a dozen technology sector companies.
It
will be followed by another one-day strike on Wednesday.
There
are plans for more strikes on 9-12 December.
