Klaipeda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) starts to operate two quays: number 8 and number 9 which are currently the deepest in the port of Klaipeda, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to Vakaru ekspresas.

Ships may be loaded and safely depart after sinking into the water up to 13.4 meters at these quays. So far the maximum permissible ships draught was 13 meters. "This is a new step in the history of the port of Klaipeda and our company, the fact that previous mistakes had been corrected is very important for as a company. Now we have good quays with which we can work and attract new cargo, "said Andrius Pauza, KLASCO Director General.

According to him, the port of Klaipeda is getting a step closer to the capacity when it will be able to load almost all kinds of ships that can enter into the Baltic Sea. "Charging larger vessels makes it possible for shippers to save money and this increases competitiveness and shippers interested in Klaipeda port," says Pauza.
