Rail Baltica is today one of the five most importan t tran sport projects in Europe, European Commission deputy president an d Tran sport Commissioner Siim Kallas said on Tuesday in Tallinn, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.
Kallas said that while Rail Baltica was just a dream three years ago, now the situation has chan ged. "Today it is one of the five most importan t tran sport projects in Europe for the future finan cing perspective. It is very importan t. The situation is such now that it is very hard to take that project off the agenda," he said.
"It is the matter of cooperation of 4-5 states how that project will progress into legal an d technical documents, that monstrous work lies still ahead," he said.
Kallas said that the European Commission wan ts a finan cing application in 2014 an d that is a lot of work.
"I certainly believe that by 2014 it will be possible to submit such an application an d it is certainly importan t that the application would be a common one, from the three Baltic states an d Polan d," said Estonian economy ministry adviser Miiko Peris.
