According to the Russian Container Market research 2012 we have recently completed, Maersk has the largest fleet deployed to St. Petersburg in terms of capacity, though not the largest ships.
This year, the first Triple-E is entering into service an d will be coming to the Baltic. Tom Hyldelund, CEO of Maersk Russia , Finlan d an d Baltic Countries, told SeaNews the entran ce of the 18,000 TEUers will not influence the Russian market.
“The reason is, that we are phasing these ships in together with the present ships that we have. But we are not going to fill those ships more than the present E-types that we have already, so there will not be an y consequence. The ships are being delivered every two months, so this mean s there will be gaps, these ships will not be able to come every week. We have ordered 20 ships, the last ship will be delivered only in the middle of 2016. So it is quite a long time-frame. And to be able to run a network like this we need to fill the ships at the same level. And that’s why, even that the ships are nominally bigger, we will only fill them according to the ships we already have on the network, which mean s we will not take an y more cargo”, he explained.
Tom Hyldelund also added that Triple-E container ships will be calling at one Baltic port only, Gdan sk .
