of Russian ports in the Baltic Sea region. Comparing with the first four month
of 2013 the throughput of this Port went up even by +23,5% or by +4 373,4 thou.
t to 23 020 thou. t in January – April of the current year.
The handling turnover of crude oil, oil products and coal constituting even
92% of the overall cargo handling volumes in the port increased rapidly: 7
755,8 thou. t of oil products ( the yoy change was +77,4pct. or +3 384,7
thou. t) were transhipped and 5 721,9 thou. t of coal ( the yoy change
was +10,9% or +563,9 thou. t) were handled in January – April of 2014. The
handling volumes of crude oil were nearly the same as in January – April
of 2013: 7 313,7 thou. tonnes were transhipped (the yoy change was –1,1% or
–82,4 thou. tonnes).
In January – April of 2014 the SEAPORT of SAINT – PETERSBURG handled
19 098,0 thou. tonnes of cargo; i.e., more by +9,9% or
by +1 728 thou. tonnes than within the corresponding period of 2013.
7 964,4 thou. tonnes of containerised cargoes constituting even 42%
of the overall turnover of the port were handled within the analysed period
(the yoy change was +4,3% or +325,8 thou. tonnes). The handling turnover of oil
products constituting 19% of the overall turnover of the port increased in
January – April of 2014: 3 664,2 thou. tonnes were transhiped (the
change was +13,8% or +444,5 thou. tonnes yoy).
The handling rates of other types of cargo making the most significant
impact on the overall turnover of the port also saw an increase: in the group
of bulk cargo the throughput of fertilizers (the yoy change was +46,1%
or +695,2 thou. tonnes to 2 203,2 thou. tonnes) marked the most
significant increase and in the group of general cargo the throughput of non
– ferrous metal (1 732,4 thou. tonnes were handled, the yoy change was
+15,7% or +235,1 thou. tonnes) and scrap metal ( the
yoy change was +145,8% or +432,0 thou. t to 728,2 thou. tonnes) saw an
increase.
PRIMORSK PORT is the centre of Russian crude oil and oil products export. Altogether
19 111,5 thou. tonnes of products, i.e. less by –17,8% or by –4 141,4
thou. tonnes comparing with the correspondent period of the previous year were
transhiped in January – April of 2014. Throughout the analysed period 15 329,4
thou. tonnes of crude oil and 3 782,1thou. tonnes of oil products

period was 5 299,0 thou. tonnes, the yoy change was +5,3%
or +265,3 thou. tonnes. This port handles basically two types of cargo. Oil
products cut out the biggest share in the overall turnover of the Port (69
pct). In January – April of the current year 3 677,6 thou. tonnes of oil
products were transhiped (the yoy change was +3% or +105,7 thou. tonnes). The

April of the current year by +11% or +159,6 thou. tonnes to 1 621,4 thou.
tonnes.
The total throughput in the PORT OF KALININGRAD was 4 546,7 thou.
tonnes, i.e. less by –9,5% or by –477,3 thou. tonnes than in January – April of
2013. The basic cargo types handled in this port are dramatically decreasing oil
products (20% of the overall throughput of the Port) and extremely rapidly
growing grain (19% of the overall throughput of the port): 899,0 thou.
tonnes (the yoy change was –46,1% or –768,7 thou. tonnes) and 858,2 thou.
tonnes (the yoy change was +253,2% or +615,2 thou. tonnes) respectively were

reached due to the monthly record result set in the throughput of fertilizers
throughout the entire history of the port: altogether 1 237,2 thou. tonnes of
bulk (packed and bulk) and liquid fertilizers were handled (+64,9% or +486,8
thou. tonnes than in April of 2013). The handling rates of fertilizers in April

the turnover of containerised cargoes marked the increase: 1
338,1 thou. tonnes were handled (the yoy change was +4,6% or +59,2 thou.
tonnes). It is worth noting that handling rates of timber and forest
products constituting 7,3% of the overall throughput of the port have been
consistently dropping down: 979,9 thou. tonnes were handled ( the yoy change
was –9,8% or –106,9 thou. tonnes).
