Port worker jobs make US most dan gerous list

Six jobs regularly carried out at ports around the world have been named amongst the top ten most dan gerous occupations in America.
The list of jobs was taken from the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics. The job named most dan gerous was fisherman or mariner. According to the report truck driving is the ninth most dan gerous occupation with ship an d tugboat operation, heavy machine operation an d construction work also all coming in the top ten.
4,000 people in the ten most dan gerous jobs were killed whilst at work in the US in 2009 including several on docks.
These figures demonstrate yet again how importan t it is that the GNT campaign is a success. Ports will always be dan gerous places to work but, by setting out minimum acceptable stan dards for health an d safety from the industry leading GNTs, hundreds of port workers could potentially be safeguarded from injury or worse.
