In 2013, as in the previous year, the port plans to handle 2 million tons more. Increase in turnover was achieved through deepening of shipping channels, what allows to enter the port for larger ships.

Fixed assets this year will be invested into the island Krievu, namely 52.7 million lats. The project was delayed due to litigation, but now there is hope for its implementation. LVL 8.3 million will be invested in the deepening of the main shipping channel, 5.1 million lats – into the auxiliary fleet and 2.5 million lats – in infrastructure development in Bolderaja.

Until 2020, the planned investments to go into the oil terminal in Bolderaja, as well as terminals for container cargo, grain, mineral fertilizers.

Last year, in Riga Port handled 36.05 million tons of cargo, and achieved the first place among the ports of the Baltic countries. Klaipeda was in the second place with turnover of 35.2 million tons, Ventspils in the third – with 30.34 million tons and Tallinn in the fourth – with 29.47 million tons.
