Despite continuous weak demand in Russia, Transiidikeskuse AS was able to grow its turnover and profit in 2016. Its Muuga container terminal processed 200 257 TEUs of containers in 2016 (TEU is a 20 foot container unit), which is 3% less than in 2015. The total cargo turnover of all the terminals was 2,83 millon tons, which is 8% more than in 2015.

Next to a stable container turnover, growth in the general cargo terminal made a strong contribution to the company’s results.

“The company’s efforts in compensating for decreased Russian demand with Estonian export goods has started to bear fruit. Container transit is becoming a relevant alternative for Estonian exports – we have invested in new warehousing and technical measurement laboratories than enable to store and export pellets, grain and other similar cargo through our terminals. The company invested all in all 5 mln euros last year. The made investements allow our clients to hold their cargo in our warehouses, reload them or measure their technical quality,” said the chairman of the board, mr Vladimir Popov.

Another achievement in the previous year was the new quality in co-operation with the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, which certified Transiidikeskuse AS as an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO certificate), which allows it use several key benefits in customs procedures. The status defines the company as a certified and secure partner, who can take advantage of customs simplifications.

“The status given to us is great news for all our clients. Because of this, they will be subjected to less customs controls, priority treatment, simplified processing relevant permits and many other similar perks. There is so much cargo moving through our terminals that the simplified customs procedures deliver significant saving of time and money for our customers,” said Popov.

Total cargo turnover 2,827 million tons (+8%)

Container turnover 200 257 TEU (-3%)

Sales revebye 19 247 198 EUR (+5%)

Net profit 3 513 956 EUR (+12%)
