As the result of a sales-purchase contract concluded on Thursday, the Transiidikeskuse AS company will start building the Muuga container terminal that has caused a lot of disputes and handling container flows of Rail Garant, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Transiidikeskus did not agree to reveal the price of the transaction of buying Rail Garant Estonia OÜ.

The company Transiidikeskus acquired has building rights in the Muuga port which enables Transiidikeskus to start expanding its terminal activities and increasing production capacity.

"According to the decision of the council of port of Tallinn, the deadline for completion of the new container terminal has been postponed by 12 months, to July 2014. We will build the first stage of the terminal and start operating it," saiud Transiidikeskuse AS board chairman Erik Laidvee.

He added that this will increase their production capacity at first by 150,000 TEU a year which enables to handle also cargo volumes promised by Rail Garant. One of Russia's biggest logistics companies, Rail Garant Grupp, will continue as operator of the new terminal after its completion.

Transiidikeskuse AS Muuga container terminal handled 224,721 TEU of containers in 2012.
