KLASCO transshipped 8% less cargo in 2013
BC, Vilnius, 10.01.2014.

In 2013, the SC Klaipeda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) transhipped 12.4 million of tones of cargos. As compared to 2012, this was 8% less, reports LETA/ELTA.

It is planned that this year the company's cargo flow will be influenced by the development of the terminals and the improvement of the port's infrastructure which have lasted for 2 years.

"2013 was not the easy year. The difficult situation in world's manure market and the closure of the line of ferries Klaipeda-Zasnicas made the situation even worse because we lost the part of the cargo flow," said Director General of the KLASCO Audrius Pauza.

According to Pauza, the positive tendencies were noticed in the sphere of grain export. Pauza highlighted that the project of the development of the grain terminal which was implemented in 2011 answered the purpose.

"2014 will be a special year for the KLASCO. We plan to finish one of the biggest investments projects in our history – in the second quarter of 2014, the new storage of the manure and the landing – loading lines will start operating," said Pauza.

SC Klaipeda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) is a port enterprise operating at a high technological level.

The Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists granted KLASCO the status of a successful enterprise for its rapid production and technological growth in 2000 and 2005. In 2007, the Lithuanian Logistics Association awarded KLASCO its newly established award for achievements in the area of logistics. Several specialists of the enterprise have been decorated with the Badge of Honour of Sea Transport Worker.
